Representation - Choosing Voices for my Radio Show

When thinking about the people I will get to read for each character on my radio station, I need to think about representation. I will need to consider the age and gender of each actor, as well as thinking about pronunciation and tone of voice.

Below is a list of some of the characters on my show and a description of how I want them to sound, alongside the name of the person I think is most appropriate to read for that character:


Show Presenter 1, Amy Morgan: Jessica Fine
  • Female
  • Younger voice
  • Voice isn't too formal
  • Happy, bubbly voice

Show Presenter 2, Marvin Kemp: Michael Allen
  • Male
  • Younger voice
  • Voice isn't too formal
  • Happy, bubbly voice

Station Jingle: Jon 
  • Older man
  • Deeper voice
  • More serious

News Jingle: Alex Murphy
  • Middle-aged voice
  • More serious

News Presenter, Amy Winters: Louise
  • Older, maturer voice
  • More serious

Detective inspector: Jon
  • Middle-aged voice
  • Typical accent that would be expected of a detective inspector

Bill Pope
  • Middle aged man
  • Typical voice and tone expected for this character

Protester, Sue Smedley: Jade
  • Young women voice
  • expected tone used for this character

Vox Pop 1: Libby
  • young teenage voice
  • expected voice and tone for this character in relation to what the story is about
  • Female

Vox Pop 2: Natalie
  • Young teenage voice
  • Expected voice and tone for this character in relation to what the story is about
  • Female

Vox Pop 3: Ismet
  • Young teenage voice
  • Male
Bobby Wilder: Jon
  • Older male
  • Tone and voice that would be expected and is suitable for this character
