I found that both national and ocal news stories tended to have the 5W's regardless of what they was about. Similarly both tended to have similar news values.
The dominant news values in national news were:
- Familiarity
- Amplitude
- Negativity
- Amplitude
- Surprise
- Continuity
- Immediacy
- Conflict
- Familiarity
- Scandal
- Negativity
- Continuity
- Surprise
- Both national and local news stories shared the dominant news values of familiarity, negativity, continuity.
- Familiarity is dominant in both but more so in local news as this is directly relevant to people living in that part if the country
- Personalisation was not as dominant as the other news values
- Negativity was present in both and quite dominant as most reported news is usually something negative that has happened
